Football: Favre-Led Vikings’ Win May Give ESPN Record Rating

By Michael Buteau

Oct. 6 (Bloomberg) — Brett Favre’s performance in the Minnesota Vikings’ victory over Green Bay on ESPN likely produced the highest-rated show in cable-televison history.

Minnesota’s 30-23 win over the Packers drew a 14.2 rating, which may turn out to be the biggest audience for a cable- television program, according to the Walt Disney Co.-owned network. Each rating point represents 1.114 million homes.

Favre, who spent 16 of his 19 seasons with the Packers, threw three touchdown passes at the Metrodome in Minneapolis last night against his former team to become the only player to win against all 32 of the National Football League’s current teams.

“This one carried a little more weight,” Favre, 39, said in a televised interview after Minnesota improved to 4-0. “It was everything it was billed to be.”

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said that the rating is “expected” to be a record when final numbers come out this afternoon.

The largest cable audience for a Monday night game until now was 12.95 million for the Dallas Cowboys’ 41-37 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 15, 2008. That also was a record for any cable program.

Last year’s Vikings-Packers game on Monday Night Football, in the first week of the season, drew a 9.3 rating, 65 percent below last night’s number.

Favre won three NFL Most Valuable Player awards and a Super Bowl title with the Packers before being forced out in 2008 as Green Bay went with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.

Facing many of his former teammates for the first time, Favre completed 24-of-31 passes for 271 yards. He threw touchdown passes of one yard to Visanthe Shiancoe in the first quarter, 14 yards to Sidney Rice in the second and 31 yards to Bernard Berrian in the third quarter.

Troubling: Fox News Reports Fake Murder from ACORN

After Andrew Breitbart posted a video of an ACORN employee in San Bernardino, California, claiming that she had killed her ex-husband, Fox News’ Glenn Beck, Karl Rove, Greta Van Susteren, and Sean Hannity promoted it without fact-checking it or indicating that they had contacted ACORN for a response to the claim. In fact, ACORN stated that the employee made up the story because she recognized that the actors in the video “were clearly playing with” her so she “matched their false scenario with her own false scenarios,” and, indeed, the San Bernardino Police Department has said her claim is false. Watch: Obama Calls Kanye a ‘Jackass’

AUDIO: President Barack Obama Calls KanYe a ‘Jackass’

TMZ has obtained the audiotape of President Barack Obama calling Kanye West a “jackass” for hijacking Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech during the VMAs.

The audio was recorded just before Obama went on camera to do an interview with CNBC. Before the interview began, Obama — referring to Kanye’s antics on stage — said “I thought that was really inappropriate,” then adding, “He’s a jackass.”

After making the remarks, Obama said “Where’s the pool?” Presumably, he was worried the joke would go wide. He noted the last time that happened, he got burned for killing a fly.

Obama said, “Cut the President some slack.”

Watch: Taylor Swift on the View

Taylor Swift was on ‘The View’ Tuesday morning to discuss her onstage clash with Kanye West at the VMAs that has everyone from Kelly Clarkson to President Obama talking.

“I think my overall thought process was something like, ‘Wow I can’t believe I won. This is awesome. Don’t trip and fall. I’m going to get to thank the fans, this is so cool–oh, Kanye West is here,” she said. “Kanye West is here, cool haircut, what are you doing there? And then ouch, and then I guess I’m not going to get to thank the fans.”

Then Kanye got into an altercation with Taylor’s mom, who “tore into him” backstage.

Kanye told Jay Leno last night that he wanted to apologize to Taylor in person and she she said would meet with him, but “he has not personally reached to out or anything.”

Though Kanye’s outburst left her “rattled,” Swift said the outpouring of support from fans has helped. “I never imagined that there were that many people looking out for me,” she said. “It was really wonderful to see there were people out there defending me so I didn’t have to.”

KanYe West calls Taylor Swift after `View’ appearance

Well, that was fast: Mere hours after Taylor Swift told the hosts of The View that Kanye West hadn’t yet reached out to offer a personal apology for his behavior at Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards, reports are indicating that the rapper has now done just that. A rep for The View tells EW that West called Swift to apologize before her interview was even done airing this morning. “During Taylor Swift’s appearance today on ABC’s The View Kanye West phoned the ABC/The View studio,” the rep’s statement says. “After the show he spoke personally to the country music superstar via telephone and has apologized to the 19 year-old singer. She has accepted Mr. West’s apology. The contents of the phone call are to remain private.”

This is now the fourth time West has apologized for his conduct at the VMAs — but hey, who’s counting, right? Do you think this is an adequate resolution to this never-ending controversy, or do you still want more?

‘Reading Rainbow’ Reaches Its Final Chapter

Even if you can’t remember a specific Reading Rainbow episode, chances are, the theme song is still lodged somewhere in your head:

Take a look, it’s in a book — Reading Rainbow …

Remember now?

Watch: Sons of Anarchy (Season 2 Episode 1) – Albification

Sons of Anarchy season 2 episode 1 was a hit with viewers. The Sons of Anarchy season 2 has made its great debut. Fans across the world believe that it is going to be as good or better than the first episode.

The Sons of Anarchy is an outlaw motorcycle club with many charters in the United States. The Charming local is the original founding chapter of the Sons of Anarchy.

The Charming charter is based out of a clubhouse adjacent to the Teller-Morrow auto mechanic shop. Led by Clay Morrow, the club protects and controls Charming through close community relationships, bribery and violent intimidation.

The full name of the motorcycle club is Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original; on occasion, the show will abbreviate it as SOA, though more frequently the club is referred to as SAMCRO (a rough acronym of The Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original or Sam Crow.

This nickname is also reflected in the original title of the show, Forever Sam Crow.

The club’s leathers also refer to “Men of Mayhem,” Jax has worn a hat that says “Reaper Crew,” and their logo is a grim reaper wielding an M-16 with scythe blade and holding a crystal ball. Another symbol of the club is the crow. (At least two female characters affiliated with the club have crow tattoos.)

As for the motorcycles, the Sons mostly ride customized Harley-Davidson Dynas.

Sons of Anarchy is an FX television series starring Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, and Katey Sagal about the lives of a close-knit outlaw motorcycle club operating in Charming, a fictional town somewhere in Northern California.

Sons of Anarchy was created by Kurt Sutter, a former writer and producer on The Shield, another FX television drama. The show’s first season averaged 5.4 million viewers weekly making it the network’s most successful show since Rescue Me.

Season two premiered on FX on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 10 p.m.
