You’ve got mail and an STD in Brazil
August 21, 2009 by Nick
RIO DE JANEIRO – You’ve got mail — and possibly an STD. The Brazilian Health Ministry has created a Web site to let people inform partners they’ve got a sexually transmitted disease via an e-mailed virtual postcard. The official in charge of the ministry’s STD and AIDs programs notes that many people have a hard time telling partners they’re infected. Read the full story

Decorated Veteran, 90, Fights to Raise Flag in His Yard
A veteran of three wars who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor is now facing an unlikely enemy — his neighbors.
Col. Van T. Barfoot, 90, has raised the Stars and Stripes every day at sunrise and lowered them every day at sunset since he served in the U.S. Army. But on Tuesday he received a letter from the law firm that represents his homeowners’ association, ordering him to remove the flagpole from his Richmond, Va. yard by 5 p.m. on Friday or face “legal action.” Read the full story

Deadly job? Funeral workers risk cancer
High rate of leukemia in undertakers using formaldehyde for embalming
WASHINGTON – Morticians who use formaldehyde
to embalm bodies have a higher risk of leukemia, researchers reported on Friday.
They found deaths from one particular kind of leukemia, myeloid leukemia, increased the longer the workers were involved with embalming.
Their study of more than 400 funeral workers is the first to look carefully at the association, they reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute

Not since Prince Charles of Wales told then-mistress Camilla Parker-Bowles of his desire to be her feminine hygiene product has an adulterous celebrity been so humiliated by a telephone communiqué. We’re talking about Tiger Woods here, and the voice mail message he left to an alleged mistress, released earlier this week by Us Weekly. In review:
“Hey, it’s, uh, it’s Tiger. I need you to do me a huge favor. Um, can you please, uh, take your name off your phone. My wife went through my phone. And, uh, may be calling you. If you can, please take your name off that and, um, and what do you call it just have it as a number on the voice mail, just have it as your telephone number. That’s it, OK. You gotta do this for me. Huge. Quickly. All right. Bye.”

Off the Album Never Take Friendship Personal. This isn’t the radio single, this is the version before it. A little bit more hard hitting and bigger vocals, my kind of music!

Drinking alcohol every day cuts the risk of heart disease in men by more than a third, a major study suggests.
The Spanish research involving more than 15,500 men and 26,000 women found large quantities of alcohol could be even more beneficial for men.
Female drinkers did not benefit to the same extent, the study in Heart found.
Experts are critical, warning heavy drinking can increase the risk of other diseases, with alcohol responsible for 1.8 million deaths globally per year. Read the full story

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus move between pop, rock and punk so fluidly in their songs that it can be hard to know how to classify them. Consequently, Lonely Road, the group’s second album, is a hodgepodge of different sounds and moods – the only unifying factor is a commitment to slick commercial accessibility. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus may not be a challenging or groundbreaking band, but on the strength of this new record there’s no question that they’re a consistently pleasurable one.
