A St. Louis University sophomore fell to his death from the balcony of a university apartment early this morning.
In an email to faculty, staff, and students, the university said that the victim was Nirmam Vasanwala, 19, a sophomore studying biology. His death is being investigated by St. Louis police and university officials.
There is no indication of foul play, Kent Porterfield, SLU’s vice president for student development said in the email.
“Our entire University community mourns the loss of Nirmam, and we extend our deepest sympathies to his family as well as his many friends on the SLU campus,” Porterfield wrote. “We have been in contact with Nirmam’s family to express our condolences and to provide any support they may need. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very difficult time.”
Vasanwala fell from the Marchetti Towers East apartment building on Laclede Ave.
School counselors, campus ministers, and staff are caring for students affected by this incident.
