Two Dead, Five Injured in Shooting at Florida High-Rise Office; Suspect Sought
Police in Orlando, Fla., are searching for a man who shot at least seven people in a downtown office building. According to initial reports, two people were killed and five others were transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. Jason Rodriguez, 40, possibly a former worker at the building, was being sought by police in connection with the shootings. The suspect may have fled in a silver Nissan SUV, Fla. tag D11 9UX. “We’ve got everybody in one office, with the door barricaded with a chest of drawers,” one woman tells the Sentinal newspaper. “There are about 20 of us in here. We’re scared.” A witness told ABC affiliate WFTV that a former employee walked into the building and opened fire. The shooting comes one day after a massacre at Fort Hood where 12 soldiers and one civilian were gunned down at a military processing center.

tells WESH-TV that at least eight people are injured. Interstate 4 is closed in both directions through downtown and a nearby school is locked down.

Two people are dead and six are wounded in a mass shouting at an office building in downtown Orlando. Bodies were found on the 12th and 8th floor of Legions Place, a 16-floor building north of Colonial Drive. Only the 12th floor has been cleared. The shooter has not been found, said Deputy Chief Mike Droege of the Orlando Fire Department. “The building is not secure now,” he said. “It’s still unfolding.” Seven people were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. One person complaining about chest pains was taken to Florida Hospital South. “They have not found the shooter to my knowledge,” Drudge added. They’re still clearing floor by floor.” Office workers are still inside. They have barricaded themselves inside and have received little information from authorities on whether it’s save to leave. One woman inside the building said they have been told the shooting possibly took place on the fourth or eighth floor. “We’ve got everybody in one office, with the door barricaded with a chest of drawers. There is a heavy police presence near Lake Ivanhoe and traffic is being diverted. Orlando police and orange county sheriffs deputies have blocked roads near the Orlando Chamber of Commerce and the Radisson hotel. All of the businesses between Marks Road south to Colonial Drive are evacuated. A witness has told WFTV that a man who previously worked in the building walked inside and opened fire. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has postponed a trip to see his son out of town and is monitoring the situation from City Hall, spokeswoman Heather Allebaugh said. ORLANDO, Fla. — Eyewitness News learned that two people were found dead after a shooting in a downtown Orlando office building Friday. According to Orlando Fire Department dispatch and Orlando police, eight other people were shot transported to a local hospital. Four people, police say, are described as ‘trauma red’ patients.The bodies of two people were found on the eight and tenth floors of the office building. The shooting happened at 1000 LEGION PL (see map) at the Gateway Center.Police say they are looking for at least suspect, but say its possible that there may be more.Due to the incident, I-4 at SR-50 is closed. Edgewater High School and Lake Highland Preparatory are on lock down.

(AP) – 22 minutes ago ORLANDO, Fla. — Police have surrounded a Florida high-rise after gun shots were reportedly fired. The Legions Place office building in downtown Orlando was ordered on lockdown Friday afternoon as officers began a floor-by-floor evacuation. It was not immediately known whether anyone was hurt. A police spokeswoman didn’t immediately return a phone call or e-mail.
