Boil-water notice issued for western Galveston Island
A boil-water notice was put into effect this morning for Galveston Island west of 81st Street after an electrical fire damaged a pumping station that serves the area.
The notice included Treasure Island in Brazoria County, but not Jamaica Beach.
People were instructed to boil water before using it for cooking or drinking, or to use bottled water.
The notice is expected to remain in effect until at least Sunday as the city of Galveston uses generators to run the system until permanent repairs can be made in a few weeks
